Physical Therapy

The Art of

Balancing the Unbalanced

I was born in  Nairobi East Africa. My father was a forester and my mother  rode and trained horses. In the early 60's my father moved us to Australia due to the Mau Mau uprising. My mother  ran a riding school while my dad went to university to become a zoologist.  When my dad qualified, and I was about  nine years old he was invited to work on a sheep station in the North West of Australia. He was manager of  the station and his job was to research animals. The station of  300,000 aces had a population of around 200 horses, a stallion, breeding stock and working horses which my mother was in charge of.  I was given a chance to choose six horses for my mustering team. On the station we had 30,000 head of sheep and the biggest shearing shed in Western Australia.  We spent three months of the year mustering sheep for the shearing.  When I was twelve years old we  moved to a cattle station of 2 million acres. I grew up with wild cows and horses. When I was 14 years old I went to Kobeelya boarding school which allowed us to have our horses for two and a half terms each year. When I was sixteen years age I trained a very special horse named Kala-Azar who changed my life. I competed on him until I was 26 along with a group of other horses. In 1980 Kala-Azar broke a record in the six bar at six foot two and a half inches. We placed sixth in the world cup show jumping, which short listed us for the Olympics. When he died I went back to college, And graduated as a Sport Massage therapist, Swedish massage therapist, Occupational therapy assistant. Since then I have applied everything I learned to horses. I spent six months working with the accuscope on people at Castle Hospital and two years on horses.
I have done therapy on horses for twenty five years.
